tool aenima (2004-10-23 - 8:35 p.m.)

an·i·ma
The inner self of an individual; the soul.
In Jungian psychology:
The unconscious or true inner self of an individual, as opposed to the persona, or outer aspect of the personality.
The feminine inner personality, as present in the unconscious of the male. It is in contrast to the animus, which represents masculine characteristics.

I'm thinking about the Tool album Aenima.
What is interesting is that they put the E in there, which could represent Enemy or Enema. Enemy as in most males are threatned by her presence in themselves. Enema, as in flushing your bowels, could be an attempt at flushing out this figure in oneself to be "masculine," or perhaps just the opposite, maybe the attempt for this album was to bring the anima to the surface in order to balance oneself. Jung beleived that all men are trying to kill their animas while women completely ingore and stifle their animus, their male personality. He believed that true happiness was listening to both figures, and that was easiest to do in one's dreams.
In dreams they often are represented as young, unsexual beings trying to lead you places or show you things. I really like how Tool did this, it is very thought provoking and makes me appreciate the connection.
